It’s the only thing that matters.

As crews race against the clock to locate and rescue the passengers of the submersible that vanished while visiting the Titanic wreck, the stepson of one of the missing didn’t let the unfolding ordeal keep him from one of his passions: rocking out with Blink 182.

Brian Szasz — whose billionaire stepfather Hamish Harding is one of the five people who could be trapped in total darkness four kilometres down beneath the Atlantic Ocean with about 40 hours of oxygen left — shared Monday that he was attending a Blink 182 concert in California despite the ongoing situation.

“It might be distasteful being here but my family would want me to be at the blink-182 show as it’s my favourite band and music helps me in difficult times!” he wrote in Facebook, the New York Post reported.

Szasz included a picture of himself smiling in a Blink-182 shirt in front of an official merchandise tent at the show, and completed the post with emojis of a black heart and praying hands.

A mere 20 minutes earlier, Szasz revealed in a post that his stepfather was one of the missing.

“Hamish my stepdad is lost in a submarine thoughts and prayers that the rescue mission will be successful,” he wrote, alongside another pair of emojis.

Earlier, he’d made a post saying, “For privacy my mom asked me to delete all related posts thanks for the support.”

Despite the controversial decision to attend a rock concert while a family member faces terrifying mortal peril nearly 3,000 miles away, friends of Szasz flocked to the post to express their support of his decision.

“They would absolutely want you to be there and enjoying yourself. Obviously your thoughts are with them,” one wrote. “They know that!”

“Every moment matters. Life doesn’t stop for anyone. You have to keep living,” said another.

Szasz’s stepfather, 58-year-old Hamish Harding, is a British billionaire entrepreneur and explorer.

He previously travelled to space aboard one of Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin missions, and set a world record alongside astronaut Buzz Aldrin for the fastest circumnavigation of the Earth to visit both poles.

Harding and his other passengers paid OceanGate Expeditions up to $250,000 for their tickets on-board the submersible which travelled to the bottom of the ocean off Newfoundland to visit the 111 year old wreckage of the Titanic.

During the expedition Sunday, surface crews lost contact with the submersible around an hour and 45 minutes into the trip. There has been no contact since.

Coast Guard crews from the United States and Canada have been scrambling to locate the vessel since the, which experts have speculated could be trapped within the wreckage of the Titanic, derelict without power on the sea floor, or already imploded due to structural problems.

If the passengers are still alive, as of Wednesday morning (AEST) they would have just 40 hours of oxygen left, the Coast Guard announced.
