Applications are invited for a full-time Research Laboratory Technician who will be based in the Cancer Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (CMDL), Clifford Allbutt Building, Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The CMDL is a key strategic resource for the integrated cancer medicine programme aimed to translate innovative genomics methods for advanced diagnosis and clinical management of cancer at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre funded by NIHR-BRC and CRUK CC Integrated cancer medicine theme (http://www.cambridgecancercentre.org.uk/research/cancer-molecular-diagnostics-lab-cmdl).
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Research Laboratory Technician to join our laboratory. The successful applicant will play a major role in supporting the laboratory team in processing research and clinical samples following GCLP quality guidelines. Routine duties will include processing patient samples (primarily blood but also ascites, urine, pleural fluid and tumour biopsies) and ensuring that all documentation and laboratory records are maintained meticulously. The role also requires performing extractions of DNA and RNA from collected samples including formalin fixed paraffin embedded samples, quantifying and recording data.
A high level of attention to detail and organization is required, as well as relevant experience in laboratory work. Previous experience of using a laboratory information management system (LIMS) or sample-tracking software would be advantageous. Good written and oral communication skills are essential. Working within the current research team, the role holder will support the full scope of the laboratory’s activities. This role would be suitable for someone with a strong science background who may be new to laboratory procedures.
