The Institute of Public Health and Wellbeing seeks to appoint a full-time Research Fellow, jointly funded by Essex University (80%) and Dublin City University (20%) to develop and grow the field of Ageing Health and Technologies.
This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious researcher to contribute to the development of a new research line and to enable collaboration across the two institutions as well as to build their pedagogical skills to successfully transition to a lectureship position.
The post is fixed term as a Research Fellow at salary grade 8 for three years in the first instance. It is fixed-term for a period of career development in order for the successful candidate to be in a position to be appointed to a permanent Lectureship in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering or the Shcool of Health and Social Care at the University of Essex at the end of the Fellowship.
During the period of the Fellowship the post holder will undertake research, teaching (to build skills and experience) and administrative duties. This is to ensure a good foundation in higher education practice for the Fellow to be able to take a permanent Lectureship that covers the full range of academic duties at a higher level.

Duties will also include contributing to public engagement and national and international impact activities, developing interdisciplinary collaborations within the Institute and with Dublin City University beyond, identifying appropriate sources of external funding and actively participating in the Institute’s workshops and seminars.
Skills and Qualifications required
The successful candidates will have a publications record appropriate for their level of experience and will be able to demonstrate evidence of potential to develop an internationally leading profile in the field. Applicants are required to have a PhD in a related discipline or be close to the completion of a PhD.
As part of the process and to be successful you will be required to demonstrate how you your research has been impactful within and beyond the academic sphere, recognising the importance of this and the effect it will have on the University.
The University of Essex is a campus based University and all academic appointments are made with the expectation that you will be present on campus to fulfil the requirements of your position.
