The University of York is seeking a Senior Research Fellow (Associate Professor) to develop innovative approaches to promoting & integrating equality, diversity & inclusion in research, in particular in trials.

The post will be embedded in the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Support Service (RSS) Hub, hosted by the University of York, a new research initiative to support the NIHR in meeting its strategic priorities. The NIHR RSS will provide seamless access to support, advice, research design & collaboration from pre-application to post-application for researchers working across the remit of NIHR in England.

1 of 8 national NIHR RSS Hubs, the Hub hosted by the University of York is a collaboration between the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield & York.

Role
You will work closely with the Co-directors, developing your own programme of research on innovative approaches to undertaking research with underserved populations and methods or approaches that address equality diversity and inclusion in research, in particular in trials. You will also have a NIHR RSS Hub leadership role, developing and sharing good practice with the Hub team and providing advice to researchers seeking support from the Hub.

Please note this role is fixed-term until 30 September 2028.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
Some of the essential requirements for the role are listed below, please see the job description for the full list of essential criteria.

  • A PhD in an area relevant to health and care research or equivalent experience.
  • Expert knowledge in equality, diversity and inclusion in health and care research, including research with underserved communities.
  • Awareness of the funding streams available and the current agenda around research funding, including the NIHR Equality Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and NIHR INCLUDE project.
  • Experience of delivering sustained and consistent, publicly verifiable, research output of high quality with evidence of impact and esteem.
  • Substantial experience involving patients, the public, and/or community organisations in research.
  • Experience undertaking research with underserved populations and/or implementing innovative methods or approaches that address equality diversity and inclusion in research, ideally in trials.
  • Proven experience of attracting and obtaining significant external research funding.
