Research Associate (Fixed Term) at University of Cambridge

Applications are invited to recruit a talented and enthusiastic post-doctoral scientist to work on in the group of Prof David Jayne. This group studies clinical epidemiology and rug development in immune-mediated kidney diseases. Specifically, this group has led development of several novel or re-purposed immunotherapeutics for vasculitis, lupus and related disorders and has conducted international randomised controlled trials.

The work will integrate clinical trials with registry databases and study the longer-term outcome of immune-mediated kidney diseases and identify prognostic factors and algorithms. It will be undertaken in the Department of Medicine, located in the Addenbrooke’s Hospital block. The work will interact with a portfolio of ongoing projects within the research group.

The role is best suited to candidates with a history of working with clinical trial databases and an understanding of how to design clinical epidemiology projects. It will require a high level of interpersonal skills to network build in a rare disease across geographic regions.  The successful candidate will be creative and bring their original contribution to the research project, show self-initiative as well as the ability to effectively manage time and priorities.

Candidates should have (or be about to receive) a PhD in a relevant discipline and have a capacity to apply initiative and creativity to solve biological problems. Relevant experience in handling clinical trial datasets and relevant biostatistics would also be beneficial.

Applicants will be expected to work closely and interactively with colleagues in different disciplines within the lab and have good communications skills.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD, or an equivalent research doctorate. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
