The role

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Orthodontic Therapy Tutor who is an experienced clinical dental educator with significant post qualification teaching experience in Orthodontics.  The postholder will play a key role in the delivery and teaching of the Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy, working closely and under the direction of the Orthodontic Therapy Programme Director. The appointee will provide teaching within their scope of practice to dental undergraduates (BDS and BSc) and to student dental nurses.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the appointee will have a broad administrative remit working with internal and external partners to ensure the smooth running of the programme – this will include involvement with the recruitment and admissions cycle, organising induction training for students, plan and help facilitate train the trainers programmes, co-lead on regulation and quality assurance relating to aspects of the programme.

The programme will be delivered from our new dental school at Trinity Quay which provides the optimum platform to ensure a high calibre programme is delivered in a new state of the art dental  facility.

What will you be doing?

  • Undertake theoretical teaching with co-responsibility for the organisation of content, preparation of teaching materials and delivery of lectures, tutorials, and other modalities to OT students in accordance with the curriculum guidelines.
  • To participate in the implementation, evaluation and continuing development of the Typodont teaching programme, and to provide co- instruction, demonstrations and supervision to OT students during their pre-clinical skills training.
  • Key lead on recruitment marketing and induction
  • Monitoring of student performance (both clinical and academically) in conjunction with the Programme Director
  • Undertaking student reviews and performance monitoring as and when needed

You should apply if

  • Significant experience of teaching in higher education and/or working independently at a specialist level in their own clinical/professional area.
  • Ability to teach appropriately in various ways at various levels and to communicate clearly material of a specialist or highly technical nature.
  • Ability to use initiative, and apply creativity, to solve problems that are encountered in the teaching
  • Ability to organise their own time and work, to meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
  • Clinical competence and experience of full range of procedures performed by DCPs and in particular Orthodontic Therapist.
  • Current knowledge Orthodontic Therapist scope of practice and adaptability to changes in DCP training and work practices
  • Current clinical experience as Dental Therapist / Orthodontic Therapist and in various fields of dentistry e.g. Primary/Community dental services, General Dental Practice etc.
  • Competent with IT including patient administration systems, Microsoft Office packages
  • Enthusiasm and drive to deliver a new programme within a new dental school

Contract type: Open-ended

Work pattern: Part time/ 0.6 FTE

Grade: Grade J/Pathway 3b

Salary: 40,745- 45,737 per annum (pro rata)

School/Unit: Bristol Dental School

Shift pattern: 21h per week
