An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Teaching Technician to join the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics. The post holder will be an experienced laboratory technician, primarily responsible for the delivery of practical teaching in Histology and Neuroanatomy but able to work across the full range of practical classes offered in the department. This role involves preparing, setting up and ensuring the smooth running of practical classes, as well as maintaining the classrooms, equipment and collection in good order, compliant with all relevant health and safety legislation, policies and local processes.
You will work as part of a small team of technicians, supporting academic colleagues to deliver high-quality practical teaching as part of the pre-clinical medical and bio-medicals. You will support the department’s sustainability objectives in respect of laboratory teaching, minimising consumption and waste, and working towards Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework certification.
The successful candidate will be educated to at least A-level or equivalent qualification in science, and have experience of working both in a laboratory environment and with hazardous chemicals. It is essential that you can troubleshoot problems with experiments and arrive at an appropriate solution. This post is ideal for anyone interested in furthering their career in a teaching laboratory environment.
