Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to undertake research in the Spinal Cord Injury Research group, based within the Centre for Brain Research. The purpose of this position is to work on a project testing the ability of a clinically used drug to provide neuroprotection through modulation of the immune response and oligodendrocyte survival/growth, following spinal cord injury. The position is funded by a two-year grant from the Wings for Life Spinal Research Foundation.
Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Capabilities
- Undergraduate biological science degree and a PhD in a biomedical science related field
- Experience with aseptic small animal surgery and animal behavioural experiments investigating neuroprotective mechanisms
- Experience with tissue processing, histology, immunohistochemistry, imaging and analysis
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Additional skills of interest
- Practical research experience with animal models in the field of spinal cord injury or other neurotrauma research
- Experience with axonal tracing
- Experience with flow cytometry analysis of immune cell populations
This is a fulltime (40 hours per week), 24-month fixed term contract
Remuneration: PD1-RF1; $84,396 – $91,328 per annum dependent on experience
