School of Sport and Exercise Sciences
Funding is available for a PhD studentship in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, under the supervision of Dr Jake Bowd. Dr Jake Bowd has research interests in human movement pre- and post-orthopaedic surgery, wearable technology, human movement analysis, and more recently in breathing pattern disorders. Biomechanical analysis can be used to contribute knowledge and understanding in sporting, exercise, and health disciplines. The successful candidate will outline a project that is closely aligned with one of the aforementioned areas of interest.
Requirements
The successful PhD candidate will require the necessary academic skills to successfully undertake and manage research. Whilst there will be strong leadership, support and supervision from the supervisory team, student independent work and using own initiative is a required skill. The successful scholarship candidate will have a keen interest in human movement biomechanics.
Applicants are required to have a good Honours degree (at least 2.1 or equivalent) in an appropriate subject, such as: Sport Science, Biomedicine, Health Science, Biomedical Engineering). A Masters in a relevant subject is desirable, but not essential.
Funding Details
The School of Sport & Exercise Sciences is offering one PhD Scholarship. The scholarship will cover tuition fees at the Home/EU rate plus a maintenance grant equivalent to the maintenance grant offered by the UK Research Councils (£18, 622 for 2023/24).
The PhD will be offered for one year in the first instance and extended to a maximum of three years in total subject to satisfactory academic performance at the end of the first year.
