An opportunity has arisen for an hourly paid surgeon to join our teaching team in delivering practical surgical neutering skills at The Mayhew Animal Home in London, as part of the University of Surrey Veterinary Medicine and Surgery course.

The teaching activity occurs at The Mayhew Animal Home (Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green, London, NW10 6BJ). Sessions take place every Tuesday and Wednesday during university terms, starting in early October and running through until May 2024 (not during holiday periods at Christmas or Easter). The successful candidate will be required to be onsite from 8.00am – 5.30pm.

The role will involve supervising and supporting our students during surgical/anaesthesia procedures and providing them with feedback and a grade (training for this will be provided). This is a great opportunity to join an academic community, at the same time as being a fantastic chance to contribute meaningfully to the welfare of the animals this charity supports.

About you

We are looking for an experienced practitioner, comfortable with all aspects of small animal surgery, but competent in performing neutering surgeries, who has an interest in teaching and preparing the students for their final year rotations. This role might suit someone with experience mentoring students on extramural studies, or someone who would like to try out developing their teaching skills for the first time.

Great communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team are vitally important.
