Job Summary

The School of Health Sciences has a vibrant and growing multi-disciplinary research culture, and benefits from cross-school and external collaborations. Research in the School of Health Sciences is applied and practical, aimed at enhancing practice within the broad fields of health and sport & exercise science. Key thematic areas include:

  • Applied practical research to enable people to live well across the lifespan in a variety of settings.
  • Applied educational research to develop skills for the workplace.
  • Evidence synthesis, including the School hosting the Scottish Centre for Evidence-based, Multi-professional Practice: a JBI Centre of Excellence.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant/Fellow (depending on qualifications and experience) with an allied health professions (AHP) qualification to join the School for a period of 2 years to support ongoing and new applied practical research and evidence synthesis work. Although the vacancy is full-time, we will consider recruiting a full-time or two part-time candidates.

Current funded projects include: Realist evaluation of Long COVID rehabilitation; Qualitative exploration of exercise prescription for tendinopathy; Mixed-methods exploration of remote AHP service delivery; Feasibility, acceptability and effectiveness of exercise for tendinopathy. You will contribute to a range of ongoing work, as well as supporting the development of funding applications and ethical/governance approvals for new work.

Research in the school is funded by NIHR, CSO, NHS, DHI and UK Industry. The school also has a strong track-record in evidence synthesis and hosts the Scottish Centre for Evidence-based, Multi-professional Practice: A JBI Centre of Excellence. The school has established links with NHS Grampian, including a jointly funded AHP Clinical Professor, and you will be actively encouraged to maintain/develop close collaboration with clinical site/s through the Clinical and Academic Homes Framework. The School also hosts the North of Scotland hub of the Council for AHP Research, which you will be encouraged to engage with. The School provides undergraduate and postgraduate education in Dietetics, Diagnostic Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Sport and Exercise Science and Public Health. Applications from AHPs out with the disciplines taught at RGU are welcome.

We operate a hybrid working policy whereby you will have the opportunity to work off campus for 50% of the working week but you must be in a position to be present on campus to meet the requirements of the role.
