About the Role
The successful candidate will act as the deputy to Professor Hodivala-Dilke and maintain laboratory research by assisting all staff with practical work, writing and planning of experiments; help to advise and maintain best record keeping for all staff, manage budgets for the lab and deploy new and existing techniques to other researchers in the laboratory in the Centre for Tumour Microenvironment. Professor Hodivala-Dilke’s research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying tumour stromal contributions to tumour growth which the aim of improving the efficiency of cancer treatments.
About You
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a cancer biology related field and have considerable expertise in blood vessel biology with a variety of practical skills and knowledge in mouse models of cancer, tumour microenvironment analysis, molecular biology, microscopy, cell biology and protein biochemical techniques. The successful candidate should show a strong track record of collaborative and first author publications and a keen willingness to drive projects forward to publication.
About the School
The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence whose work aims to transform the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in the laboratory, in patients and in populations. It is one of six institutes within The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of clinicians and clinician scientists from the Centre for Experimental Cancer Medicine and the Barts NHS Trust to achieve improvements in cancer patient care. BCI is also a partner in the CRUK City of London Major Centre (together with UCL, Kings and the Francis Crick Institute) which is a Centre of Excellence in Biotherapeutics. BCI is committed in supporting and developing future cancer researchers through its extensive postgraduate training.

The post is based at the Charterhouse Square Campus in London. It is a full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 3 years, with an expected start date of October 2023. The starting salary will be Grade 6, in the range of £52,549 – £58,595 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
