Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate/Fellow to work on an HRT funded project within the laboratory of Dr Abdolrahman Shams Nateri at the BioDiscovery Institute, University of Nottingham, UK.
The project aims to develop a novel patient-derived 3D culture platform using samples from colorectal cancer patients. This platform combines the advantages of both in vivo and in vitro systems, allowing for the recreation of the complexity of the tumour microenvironment and the interactions among different cell types within a dish. The successful development of this colorectal patient-derived platform will enable the validation of anti-cancer drugs and prediction of their clinical benefits by modulating secretion and metabolites in bowel cancer and other cancer types. Additionally, this technology can serve as a high-throughput screening platform for drug discovery and modelling various human bowel-associated diseases, including inflammatory bowel diseases and colorectal cancer.
This post offers a unique opportunity to work in multicellular modelling of gastrointestinal tissues, diseases, and cancer while developing skills in state-of-the-art technologies.
A PhD or the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience in in cancer biology, tissue regeneration, or 3D cultures models, is required. Consideration will be given to candidates who are PhD students nearing the submission of their thesis. It is desirable for the successful candidate to have experience in some of the following areas: tumour microenvironment and 3D cancer modelling, secretome analysis, modulators of extracellular matrix programming, imaging, gene expression analysis data, and a publication record in scientific research. Bioinformatics experience is highly relevant to the project. The successful candidate will play a key role in a highly collaborative research environment, so the ability to build relationships and collaborate with others is essential.
This is a full-time (36.25 hours), fixed-term post for 23 months. There is a possibility of contract extension dependant on funding. The position is available as soon as possible after the closing date, and the start date must be no later than 2nd October 2023, as per funding terms and conditions.
