York Trials Unit is one of the UK’s leading centres for design and analysis of randomised controlled trials. Due to the continued success of the Unit, we are now seeking to appoint a trainee health economist. You will join a team of health economists under the supervision of Steve Parrott. The post offers the opportunity to be part of a large and successful multi-disciplinary Department which is renowned for its methodological expertise and commitment to policy relevant research

Role

You will develop strong foundations for a career in health services research. Conduct high quality economic evaluations of trials, manipulating and summarising data, and provide on-going health economics advice during the development and conduct of trials. You will liaise with trial managers to manage health economics data and analytical aspects of the studies to ensure data quality. You will also be encouraged to undertake dissemination of your research through publications, seminars and conference presentations and contribute to the identification of possible new areas of research.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in economics, health economics, econometrics at grade 2:1 or higher or exceptionally substantial experience at an equivalent level
  • Willingness to undertake further postgraduate study
  • Working knowledge of a statistical package programming (eg STATA)
  • Ability to undertake basic data analysis of research relevant to randomised controlled trials
  • Ability to undertake basic statistical programming and explain economics concepts in simple terms to individuals from non-technical backgrounds
  • Experience of managing and analysing data
  • Experience of summarising data in a report format
  • Understanding of how quantitative research data are presented and interpreted
  • Ability to log information in an efficient and accurate manner and cope under pressure while maintaining a high level of accuracy
