The Clinical Lecturer for Integrated Clinical Skills will join the Institute of Education for Healthcare and Medical Sciences as one of a team of academic, administrative and clerical staff who support the MBChB and other healthcare programmes. You will be based in the Suttie Centre for Teaching and Learning in Healthcare, on the Foresterhill site.

You will join a multi-professional team of experienced educators in the Clinical Skills Centre and the Department of Anatomy, all of whom are responsible for the development and delivery of innovative and high-quality learning experiences for healthcare students. The appointee will report through the Director of the Clinical Skills Centre and Professor of Anatomy to the Director of the Institute for Education in Healthcare and Medical Sciences.

MBChB is a systems based course, in which students learn all aspects of a medical ‘system’ in one ‘block’ e.g. respiratory system. During each block students will study the anatomy, physiology, clinical skills etc. relevant to that system. Their learning is enhanced by opportunities to link and cross-reference as much as possible between sessions and activities.

This is a new role that has been created as an exciting opportunity for the post holder to develop and deliver authentic opportunities for students to integrate and functionally relate their system based anatomical and clinical skills learning.

The role will require you to acquire and keep up to date a practical understanding of clinical skills and anatomy teaching to identify opportunities for integrated learning activities and then be able to develop and progress them with colleagues in both departments.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Clinical scale for Academics below level of Consultant, £38,704 – £68,453 per annum, and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.

Informal enquiries should be made to Professor Simon Parson, Regius Chair of Anatomy (simon.parson@abdn.ac.uk) or Dr Angus Cooper, Director of Clinical Skills (angus.cooper@abdn.ac.uk).

Should you require a visa to undertake employment in the UK you will be required to fulfil the minimum points criteria to be granted a Certificate of Sponsorship under the requirements of the Skilled Worker visa.  At the time an offer of appointment is made, you will be asked to demonstrate that you fulfil the criteria in respect of qualification and competency in English. For research and academic posts, we will consider eligibility under the Global Talent visa. Please do not hesitate to contact Grant Rae, HR Adviser (e-mail: grant.rae@abdn.ac.uk) for further information.

Interviews will be held on 21st September 2023.
