Peggy Jones may be the unluckiest woman alive, after an evening of yard work ended in being attacked by a snake and hawk at the same time.

The 64-year-old was riding a mower around her property in Silsbee, Texas at about 8pm on July 25 when something unbelievable happened: a large snake fell from the sky and landed on her arm.

Recounting the story first to Silsbee’s local newspaper, then national news outlets, Mrs Jones said she tried to “sling” the snake off her arm – which, she said, only caused it to tighten its grip – when it started to strike at her face.

All I could see was this … it looked like a big wide mouth coming at your face,” Mrs Jones told Fox 26.

The snake struck and chipped her glasses, spewing a liquid she assumes was venom over her.

But when she thought the ordeal could not get any worse, a hawk – which Mrs Jones guesses dropped the snake – swooped down to grab the snake.

She said the hawk tried four times to retrieve the snake from her arm, its talons digging into her skin and wings beating against her in the bloody tussle that left her arm “torn up”.

“I’m screaming during this whole time, ‘Help me, Jesus! Please, help me, Jesus!’” Mrs Jones told the local newspaper, the Silsbee Bee.

Photos shared with media outlets showed the deep cuts and bruises left on her right forearm after the attack.

Once the hawk eventually snatched the snake, the 64-year-old ran to her husband Wendell who had heard her “hysterical” screams.

“The first word I heard was snake fell out of the air, so I’m thinking … yes you are hysterical,” he told Fox 26.

“She was screaming and crying, trying to talk but I just couldn’t understand a thing she said.”

But after seeing her bloody arm he raced his wife to hospital, where even the doctors struggled to believe her story – she told KPRC they asked “what kind of drugs” she was taking.

Although Mrs Jones is now recovering fro the ordeal, she said she is still rattled by the “scary and traumatic” ordeal. She says she still has “horrific” nightmares about the attack and snakes.

Mr Jones told the reporters the nightmares are likely the result of the snake and hawk attack, as well as a previous incident when his wife was bitten by a venomous snake on their property.

Even so, Mrs Jones is thankful to be alive, and even went as far to tell reporters she considers herself the “luckiest person alive”.

“I was attacked by a snake and a hawk and I lived to tell about it.”
