The Peninsula Dental School are looking to appoint a proactive and enthusiastic individual to take on the role of Clinical Skills Technician.

You will provide technical support within the Simulated Dental Learning Environments (SDLE) for the delivery of undergraduate teaching and assessment and will be an integral member of the technical team. You will be working alongside other technicians and will assist on the day-to-day tasks under the direction of the of the SDLE Senior Technician and Technical Manager. You will be line managed and supported by the SDLE Senior Technician.

You will be required to prepare and maintain a variety of dental equipment and consumables and will be expected to interact with academic/clinical staff and students to assess and fulfil their requirements. You will assist with the demonstration of more specialised techniques and equipment – for example 3D printer.

This is a permanent, part-time position working 14.8 hours per week Monday & Tuesday and is part of a job share.  The role is based on main campus Plymouth, in the Portland Square Building. On occasions you may be required to travel to our other sites and this will include going to our Truro or Exeter campuses. Travel expenses will be covered outside of your main place of work.

Normal working hours will be 8:30am – 5pm. On occasions you may be required to work outside these times, but you will be notified of this in advance.

You will assist with the demonstration of more specialised techniques and equipment – for example dental haptic machine and 3D printer. And be a safety coordinator for the school. It is not essential for you to have expereince with dentistry, we are looking for someone who is hard working, organised and have transferrable skills that you can apply to the role.

You will have:

  • Experience of health and safety in the workplace, including how to write risk assessments
  • Experience with 3D printers (desirable)
  • Experience of working in a teaching /training environment, preferably in a clinical setting
  • Knowledge of Audio visual /Multimedia equipment set-up and maintenance
  • Previous experience of work within healthcare or dentistry (desirable)
  • Previous experience of working with, and supporting student learning (desirable)
  • Experience with Microsoft office package
  • Experience with the purchasing system
