The Role

As Assistant Professor in Advanced Clinical Practice, you will actively contribute to the research strategy and activities within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences – School of Nursing Midwifery and Health with the aim to provide strategic direction, academic leadership and management of research, student experience and course management supporting the School’s activities in post graduate education.

The Health Education England (HEE) Supported e-Portfolio route is open to suitable experienced individuals to be recognised as educated to the level of advanced clinical practitioner and be eligible for inclusion on HEEs Advanced Clinical Practice Directory. The e-portfolio route is for experienced clinicians who believe they have a portfolio evidencing equivalence of level 7 attainment and experience against all 4 pillars of advanced practice.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

As Assistant Professor in Advanced Clinical Practice you will be responsible for the development and delivery of teaching, learning and assessment, while demonstrating innovative approaches to teaching and support to students. You will also ensure that the teaching is informed by contemporary research in the relevant field and aid student’s ability to engage in debate, critical discourse and rational thinking.  

To reflect critically on teaching, implement improvements, disseminate good practice, and contribute to quality monitoring and enhancement and to professional accreditation processes. To undertake work with external partners and professional bodies in the UK and international, while undertaking scholar activities through a range of approaches.  

Qualifications Required

PhD in a relevant discipline or if from a professional practice, a good honours degree (and/or Master degree) and appropriate professional qualifications and/or memberships might be considered equivalent to a PhD.  

At Assistant Professor level, applicants should be able to demonstrate a high level of expertise holding a higher degree in an advanced practice or related subject and be registered with the NMC or HCPC

Our Successful Candidate

You will have recent experience at higher education level with evidence of successful student learning outcomes, evidence of good/innovative practice and extensive experience and national profile in chose subject or field or (If from Professional practice background) evidence of presentation skills, coaching, mentoring and teaching other professionals.

Evidence of contribution to a community of practice in chosen field or experience of leading professional practice/consultancy work with evidence of solutions to business/practice problems.    

Ability to demonstrate adherence to regulations regarding ethics, governance, social responsibility and other legal requirements. To facilitate the support of professional learning and development programmes and contribute to other commercial activity associated with teaching. You will also need the ability to contribute to the development and delivery of transnational education partnerships and international commercial projects.  

A willingness to undertake academic activities in the evening when necessary and participate in occasional weekend activities such as recruitment days. The role will require local, national and where appropriate international travel to undertake academic activity.
