The post

We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with specialist expertise in systematic review methods to the NIHR-funded Spotting Cancer among Comorbidities (SPOCC) programme, which aims to find out how pre-existing medical conditions put patients at higher risk of a delayed cancer diagnosis. This post will contribute to a work package developing an intervention to improve how possible cancer symptoms are spotted in primary care. The successful applicant will conduct a systematic review of areas relevant to patient help-seeking behaviours and/or primary care practice for GPs/nurses. Duties may also include working with patient and public representatives, making presentations, assisting with an ethics application, and contributing to study outputs. The post is available from 15 Nov 2023 to 28 Feb 2023, with some flexibility around the start date, and is subject to a DBS check.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to: conduct systematic reviews using literature databases, quality appraisal/reporting checklists, and PROSPERO; develop systematic review methodology; work as part of a large study team; contribute to an ethics application; write up findings; and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification. They must have experience in conducting systematic reviews and the applicant should possess sufficient knowledge in systematic review methodologies to be able to design this type of study. Additionally, the successful applicant will have expertise in health or social science research, complex interventions, and/or intervention development. They will also be able to work collaboratively in teams and with different research stakeholders, and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
