The Usher Institute within The University of Edinburgh is looking for a lecturer with a passion for both teaching and research who can contribute to social sciences teaching on our undergraduate medical degrees. It offers an opportunity to join a dynamic research institute with a strong social science team.

The Opportunity:

The post will play a key role in the development and delivery of social sciences within our undergraduate medical programmes – MBChB and HCP-Med – , with a specific focus on integrating social sciences in the clinical curriculum. Alongside teaching, the post holder will conduct high quality impactful research in a relevant area of social sciences, medicine and public health. We welcome applications from any social sciences health-related field but have specific interest in research that complements existing social sciences research within the Usher Institute and that aligns with our research-led approach to teaching.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD in a health related social sciences subject
  • Experience of organising and delivering social sciences teaching within undergraduate medicine.
  • Thorough understanding of social sciences as applied to health, illness and medicine
  • Track record of excellent research and scholarship of international impact, including the publication of peer reviewed articles in high quality journals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience of interacting with public health stakeholders
  • Experience of working in an interdisciplinary context.
