Health Economist – Postdoctoral Research Associate at University of Exeter

This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on Exeter St Luke’s campus and some from home.

This new full-time post is available from 1/10/2023 for 1 year on a fixed-term basis.

Summary of the role
This post is part of a team responsible for evaluating the implementation of an artificial intelligence system for the detection of skin cancer in primary care. Your main role will be co-ordinating this evaluation. You will be particularly responsible for the cost-effectiveness components and the delivery of a cost-effectiveness model as part of the evaluation. You will be supported by a highly experienced team who will help you.

Dept of Health and Community Sciences, Exeter Test Group
You will work in an internationally recognised centre of excellence on the evaluation of tests http://medicine.exeter.ac.uk/testgroup/ led by Prof Chris Hyde. Most recently we have been central in developing a natural-history based economic model of screening for lung cancer, used to underpin UK decision making on the introduction of a national programme of lung cancer screening https://view-health-screening-recommendations.service.gov.uk/lung-cancer/ . We work closely with national policy-making bodies like NICE and the National Screening Committee. We also work with developers of tests and the post advertised is an example of this. We are particularly interested in expanding our programme of work on health economic aspects of the evaluation of tests, and improving the methods of doing this.
