Job Summary
We are seeking a technical analyst to join the science and policy team of the Vaccine Impact Modelling Consortium (VIMC, www.vaccineimpact.org). VIMC is an international community of modellers providing high-quality estimates of the public health impact of vaccination, to inform and improve decision making.
This major collaborative initiative, directed by Professor Caroline Trotter, is based within the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis at Imperial College London and funded jointly by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and the Wellcome Trust.
VIMC was established in 2016 and began its second grant period in 2022. This new phase – ‘VIMC 2.0’ – will see a greater focus on modelling to address questions for vaccine policy and practice, working with a more diverse international community of modellers. VIMC’s secretariat, based at Imperial College, coordinates activities across the consortium, provides infrastructure to host the generated datasets, and aggregates and interprets the estimates for use by stakeholders.
You will work in a team alongside three researchers, collaborating closely on the analysis of vaccine impact estimates generated across the consortium and responsive work on key policy questions. This research includes (a) working with modelling groups on policy-driven workstreams (b) assessing the impact of changes to vaccine schedules or activities; (c) contributing to training and collaboration to broaden and diversify the network of vaccine impact modellers; (d) assisting key stakeholders with the refinement, interpretation, and use of VIMC outputs.
Duties and responsibilities
Your main focus will be on analysis, reporting and documentation. Specifically, you will collate data and undertake appropriate epidemiological analysis (using specialised software); use existing mathematical model packages and workflows (including R software and high-performance computing) to generate outputs; and develop a robust, documented, and reproducible data workflow for each client and question to ensure an audit trail.
You will also be responsible for customer service, planning and organising, finance and resource management, liaising with clients and other stakeholders, among other duties.
Essential requirements
- MSc or higher degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biology, Statistics or related quantitative discipline or relevant industry experience
- Significant experience in epidemiological data analysis
- Experience managing, structuring and analysing research data
- Experience in R programming language for performing model simulations and data analysis
- Experience in presenting complex data to a diverse audience
- An ability to undertake systematic, documented data analysis tasks
- An ability to use judgement to analyse and solve problems and take action to prevent recurrence of problems
- Ability to communicate complex, specialist or conceptual information clearly and persuasively, presenting compelling arguments to influence and/or negotiate satisfactory outcomes
- Ability to work independently and proactively
- A high level of verbal and written communication skills to be able to convey complex information to a diverse audience

This is a full time and fixed term post for 2 years (part-time/flexible working will be consider and details can be discussed at interview). You will be based at St. Mary’s Campus (Paddington) initially and will move to White City Campus in late 2023.
