An exciting new post has been created to support primary care research activity in the region with the aim of increasing research in general practice and building a wider research network.

We are looking for a registered healthcare professional (eg. GP, nurse, allied healthcare professional) with knowledge of or experience in primary care research, preferably with experience of attracting research income and leading teams.

The post, which is based at the Centre for Health Services Studies (CHSS) at the University of Kent in Canterbury, is offered part time at 0.60FTE with the opportunity for the post holder to continue their clinical work for 1-2 days/week. Secondment and flexible arrangements are be available and will be discussed with the successful candidate.

CHSS is a multi-disciplinary research unit that undertakes high quality applied health and social care research into a wide range of health systems and health services issues at local, national and international levels.

As a Senior Clinical Research Fellow you will:

  • Lead, support and deliver a package of support for primary care research working collaboratively with practices across NHS Kent and Medway. 
  • Develop and manage own academic research with colleagues at CHSS in line with the key research themes of CHSS and the priorities for primary care within NHS Kent and Medway.
  • Act as a source of leadership, information and advice to other members of CHSS in areas of primary care clinical and health services research.
  • Contribute ideas for new research projects, develop ideas for generating research income and participate in preparing grant proposals.

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • Clinical qualification in general practice or a registered healthcare professional
  • Knowledge of or experience in undertaking research relevant to primary care within their training or clinical role
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the organisation of primary care in England and the research landscape in primary care
  • The ability to operate at an appropriate strategic level, to solve problems and achieve challenging deadlines
