Job description:

The Role

We are looking for a Clinical Senior Lecturer/Honorary Consultant in Oncology with a special interest in early phase trials and also to develop translational research in a tumour type of interest. We have one posts to advertise and the successful candidate will join an established team of 4 consultants running an active early phase trials unit and participate in translational research at Newcastle University.

This academic post will be based in the Translational and Clinical Research Institute in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, and you will also be a member of the Cancer NUCoRE, one of Newcastle University’s cross cutting Centres of Research Excellence (https://www.ncl.ac.uk/cancer/) with a wider membership of >100 PIs/ECRs across the whole translational pathway – from discovery to translation to impact on patients and society.

The job plans will include 8 academic PAs and 2 NHS clinical PAs (the job plan including 1 SPA). The duties will be in line with the University’s role profile for clinical academic staff. In particular, the post holder will support the development of research by developing bids for funding; networking with people who can contribute to and implement the research; present research to national and international audiences; publish research in peer-reviewed journals; complete research in a timely manner to budget and meeting project milestones; supervise PhD/Masters students; undertake some administrative and management duties as requested by the Institute Dean.
All academic colleagues with NU Translational and Clinical Research Institute are expected to teach and supervise students. The amount of teaching/supervision will be agreed with the Institute Dean and will be commensurate with other responsibilities.

The interviews will be held on Monday 2nd October 2023.
