We are inviting applications for 2 Anatomy Demonstrator positions from enthusiastic individuals, keen to help our students advance their anatomy knowledge and understanding in an applied context.
These Anatomy Demonstrator posts are an opportunity to join our core anatomy education team, to help provide students with support, guidance and high-quality anatomy teaching and learning.
Anatomy teaching and learning at the Peninsula Medical School is clinically applied, including topographical and functional anatomy and neuroanatomy.
You will primarily teach topographical and functional anatomy, but there is a potential to extend into medical imaging and histology, given appropriate knowledge and experience.
The majority of teaching occurs in small groups, providing you with an opportunity to facilitate hands-on, interactive sessions combining virtual anatomy technology, such as the Anatomage system, with topography, working with our team of surface anatomy models.
We follow a constructively aligned teaching paradigm, teaching anatomy in the way doctors see it in practice.
Our spiral curriculum encourages deep learning of subjects that are expanded on in different contexts and further depth, through each year of the course, ensuring our students are equipped fully to pursue any specialty they prefer.
The primary teaching focus is on the undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS), BMBS with Foundation Year, Diagnostic Radiography (BSc) and postgraduate Physician Associate Studies (MSc) programmes, although there may also be opportunities to provide teaching to clinical and allied health profession staff within the NHS. We expect you to have a sound knowledge of anatomy, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a willingness to develop your knowledge and skills in anatomy education. You will be supported in your training needs with expert guidance in anatomy and its clinical relevance, a grounding in relevant pedagogy, and the time and opportunities to develop your educational scholarship and research practice. Time and support will be provided to attain an educational qualification, where appropriate.
This job would be suitable for those seeking to obtain experience in, and further their knowledge and understanding of anatomy and medical education, or those with ambitions to develop and pursue a university or clinical teaching role in the future. We welcome applications from those with either formal human anatomy expertise or a healthcare background.
Please demonstrate how you meet the Person Specification as cited in the job description.
For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact Dr Siobhan Moyes, Dr Lauren Carr or Lily Evans by email anatomy@plymouth.ac.uk.
Closing Date: 12 Midnight, Wednesday 13th September 2023
Interviews are likely to take place on Tuesday 3rd October 2023.
These are full-time positions working 37 hours a week on a permanent basis.
Flexible working options including job share will be considered.
We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities.
The Faculty of Health holds a Silver Athena Swan Award and the University holds a Bronze Athena SWAN Award which recognises commitment to advancing women’s careers in STEMM academia.
Staff appointed within the Faculty of Health may be able to join the NHS pension scheme subject to eligibility criteria.
