Background
We are seeking to appoint a new academic to join our long-established Anaesthesia Associate programme at an exciting time when our programme is growing and delivering increased numbers of qualified educators into the healthcare workforce. The imminent regulation of the profession by the GMC also opens up a range of new opportunities for a qualified Anaesthesia Associate to enter the academic workforce. These educators will enhance the training of future Anaesthesia Associates and will deliver innovative teaching, design and implement new assessments, and design and implement exciting new online learning materials, and thus engage and enthuse the Anaesthesia Associates of tomorrow. This role will also involve engaging with interprofessional learning. The successful applicant will contribute to programme and curriculum development and module leadership with a particular emphasis on integrated learning, and alignment of the current curriculum to the newly published GMC curriculum. It is expected that the post holder will also use their expertise to advise and support colleagues who work on the College of Medical and Dental Sciences’ other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes ensuring that best practice is used for assessment throughout the College.
Main Duties
The postholder will:
- Work towards developing and enhancing teaching and assessment within the Anaesthesia Associates programme, with a focus on OSCES, innovative online learning and written assessments.
- Design, deliver and mark assessments, to enhance the student experience.
- Work as a Personal Academic tutor for Anaesthesia Associate students
- Work closely with the Programme Director and contribute to line management responsibilities and personal development of other members of staff (if appropriate).
- Work to enhance interprofessional learning within the programme and across the College.
- Be required to work flexibly to balance academic and clinical commitments.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Demonstrate a drive to enhance Learning and Teaching, and Management and Administration within the Anaesthesia Associate profession.
Qualifications and Experience:
- The postholder should be an experienced Anaesthesia Associate, with demonstrable experience in clinical practice, and possess a higher degree (PhD or near to completion or equivalent) in a relevant discipline or possess a PGDip/MSc in Anaesthesia Associate Studies (or equivalent).
- The successful candidate must have an interest in the design and delivery of healthcare education and show an interest in developing areas for pedagogical research.
