Background:

The Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences invites applications from people with a strong commitment to delivering excellent teaching and learning in the fields of Bioinformatics and Health Data Science. The post holder will be a key player within the team that co-ordinates and delivers our successful MSc programmes in Bioinformatics and in Health Data Science on both our Birmingham and Dubai campuses and via online Distance Learning.

The post holder will have substantial expertise and demonstrated experience in teaching Bioinformatics, Health Data Sciences, Data Anayltics, Machine Learning or Statistics and coding skills in multiple programming languages including R and Python.

Main Duties:

  • Lead key modules in the MSc Bioinformatics and MSc Health Data Science programmes
  • Provide substantial contributions to other teaching duties as assigned
  • Teach and examine courses at a range of levels on both the Birmingham and Dubai campuses and on Distance Learning programmes
  • Develop and manage approaches to teaching and learning that are innovative to the subject area or institution
  • Undertake and develop a full range of responsibilities in relation to research supervision, marking and examining

Person Specification:

  • PhD (or one near to completion) or equivalent experience in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Sciences, Health Analytics or related fields
  • Extensive teaching and research experience and within Data Science disciplines
  • Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning and research
  • Skills in managing, motivating and mentoring others successfully at all levels
  • Coding skills in multiple programming languages including R and Python
  • Ability to design, deliver, assess and revise teaching programmes.
