The Department of Clinical Biochemistry is seeking to recruit a new Assistant Professor of Metabolic Medicine and Course Director for the MPhil in Obesity, Endocrinology and Metabolism.
The holder of this new post will be responsible for overseeing and growing the new taught MPhil course in Obesity, Endocrinology and Metabolism. The post holder will take responsibility for leading the development and implementation of the new course, delivering a proportion of the lectures, overseeing recruitment and assessment, and organising training.
Alongside the MPhil leadership, the post holder will be expected to run a small research group, and should apply for project/programme grant funding from external sources to run their research programme. They should be available as a potential supervisor of PhD students, as well as masters students on the new course (max 2 per year) who express an interest in the research area of the post-holder.
Specific duties include:
- Providing strategic oversight for the MPhil in Obesity, Endocrinology and Metabolism. Working with partners at Department, School and University level, you will use your active and topic-relevant research experience to ensure that the course stays on the cutting-edge of science.
- Having a day-to-day overview of operational matters such as content delivery, teachers, assessment, admissions, responding to student feedback, liaison with Degree Committee and other University bodies, etc
- Being a leader for matters beyond administrative details: respond to/direct lecturer queries, be present at course-related meetings
- Lead an active research group: including bringing in funding through grant applications; staff recruitment, supervision and training; PhD student supervision; and publications and dissemination activities.
Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and will have an academic record appropriate for their career stage. Candidates should be able to, or have the strong potential to, inspire and educate a diverse range of students at Masters level, including the ability and willingness to contribute to laboratory -based teaching and training, and a willingness to take a leading role in the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate students.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 5 years in the first instance.
