Warwick Medical School (WMS) runs the largest Graduate Entry Medical programme in the UK, it recruits motivated students and produces excellent graduates. The MBChB course is highly integrated, centred around Case Based Learning (CBL), and is composed of integrated longitudinal themes (e.g., clinical anatomy and imaging) and blocks of system and clinical specialty-based learning. The University of Warwick is ranked highly, recently being recognized by the Sunday Times “Good University Guide 2022” as the best university in the UK for teaching quality and runner-up University of the Year.
This post is an exciting opportunity to join the academic leadership team for the Warwick MB ChB Programme, leading on the strategic development of digital resources for the Warwick Clinical Skills course within the MB ChB programme (Warwick CSc).
The overarching objective of this post is to facilitate the delivery of safe, competent, confident and kind doctors, fit for appointment as Foundation Year Doctors within the UK Health Care system. The post holder will work with the lead and deputy lead for clinical skills to produce high quality digital media to support learning. This will include consolidating and creating new models of teaching clinical skills. The post holder will also contribute to face-to-face clinical skills teaching.
The post holder will also contribute to other clinical teaching, learning and assessment activities within the MB ChB programme. This will include OSCE creation, OSCE delivery, OSCE examiner training and facilitation of other clinical examinations. There may also contribute to written assessment creation and delivery.
They will also contribute more widely to the delivery and development of the MBChB course at Warwick and will engage in scholarship related to teaching and learning, especially in relation to Clinical Skills. The post holder may also contribute to the teaching and assessment of the Masters in Medical Education Programme.
As a clinical academic appointment, the post holder will be a working clinician and have extensive experience and proof of excellence in clinical teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. The post is supported by the Academic Lead for Clinical Skills.
Role of digital media resource lead for Clinical Skills:
The post holder will lead on the production of digital media to support clinical skills learning in conjunction with the Academic Lead & Deputy Lead for Clinical Skills. The main roles and delivery components across the three Phases of the Warwick Medical School.
Phase 1:
- Delivery of Basic Clinical Skills Teaching.
- Reviewing teaching resources.
- Developing new teaching resources.
- Formative OSCE delivery.
- Clinical Skills revision.
- Summative OSCE delivery.
Phase 2:
- Reviewing teaching resources for Practical Skills.
- Developing digital teaching resources.
- Reviewing the TDOCS assessments (Teaching by Direct Observation of Clinical Skills).
- Summative OSCE facilitation.
- Clinical Skills revision.
- Feedback to individual students.
Phase 3:
- Delivery of Final Year Clinical Skills Teaching.
- Reviewing teaching resources for Clinical Skills teaching.
- Developing new digital resources for Clinical Skills teaching.
- Clinical Skills revision.
- Summative OSCE facilitation.
The post holder will work closely with the Academic Leads for Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3, other Theme Leads and the Director of Medical Studies. The role also involves working alongside existing academic and administrative colleagues within the medical school and collaborate with clinical and senior management colleagues within the NHS. They will also collaborate nationally with the Clinical Skills Forum. The postholder will be encouraged to participate in and present at conferences in Clinical Education.
