Humanitarian assistance
Canada will provide $169.15 million in funding for humanitarian assistance to Syria and the region in 2022. Working through partners, including UN agencies, non-governmental organizations and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Canada ensures that the specific needs and priorities of vulnerable and marginalized individuals and groups are addressed. In line with its commitment to the Grand Bargain for humanitarian assistance, Canada continues to provide multi-year and flexible funding, including regional funding, to trusted partners to ensure that partners can continue to meet needs as the situation evolves.
The funding will be distributed as follows:
- Iraq – $20 million
- Jordan – $12 million
- Lebanon – $40.5 million
- Syria – $65.4 million
- Syria Regional – $31.25 million
Development assistance
Canada will provide $60 million in funding for development assistance to Syria and the region in 2022. In Iraq, Canada is helping to strengthen governance, build capacity to provide basic services, further gender equality and promote the economic empowerment of women and girls. In Lebanon, Canada’s efforts are focused on expanding livelihood opportunities and skills development for women and youth. In Jordan, Canada is working to improve access to quality public education for all children and also to support economic reforms and inclusive governance, including in municipal services. In Syria, programming supported by Canada aims to enhance gender equality by supporting women’s economic empowerment and local women’s organizations.
