On October 6, 2022, Minister Joly announced $9.7 million in development assistance funding for 4 projects across Latin America and the Caribbean, as follows:
Blueprints for Gender Equality: This $2.5-million investment will help advance gender equality in Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This project will create more open, inclusive and gender-responsive governance and will help address the most pressing gender-equality issues faced by women, girls and marginalized groups.
Faces for Gender Equality: This $3.5-million project will be implemented by 5 organizations that defend human rights to advance the economic, political and social empowerment of 2SLGBTQI+ communities in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua. The project will help reduce barriers to 2SLGBTQI+ gender equality and help reduce poverty in Central America.
Caribbean Field Support Services Local Development Initiatives: This $1.5-million project will help small civil society organizations advance development priorities set out in Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy in Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname.
Promoting the Rights of Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants in Latin America and the Caribbean: This $2.2-million project with the International Organization for Migration will support Venezuelan refugees and migrants, particularly women and girls, in Colombia, Peru and the wider Latin America and Caribbean region. The project aims to respond to human trafficking and support the regularization and integration of Venezuelan refugees and migrants in their host communities.
