The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (MDBS), Centre for Public Health at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Cancer Intelligence Officer (CIO).

The successful candidate will provide accurate resolution of data from multiple clinical sources to validate and supplement patient and disease data held electronically by the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry (NICR), making decisions within the classification guidelines and rules of the International Union Against Cancer, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the International Association of Cancer Registries and the World Health Organisation. The accuracy of this data is vital to the validity of the work of the NICR to enable it to facilitate research, education and planning of cancer services.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • Academic and/or vocational qualifications i.e. NVQ Level 3, A levels in relevant subject (or equivalent) OR substantial work experience in a similar environment

And

  • 4 years’ relevant work experience including experience in data abstraction from patient health records, and experience in applying oncology coding and cancer staging classification systems
  • Experience using a wide range of IT systems including databases, word-processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and internet.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
