We are seeking an outstanding candidate to join the Institute of Genetics and Cancer as the Chair of Functional and Translational Genomics.
The Opportunity:
The successful appointee will lead and manage a research team within the Institute of Genetics and Cancer. They will be expected to sustain a world-leading research programme in the field of functional and translational genomics, and to obtain considerable research funding to support their endeavours. They will contribute to the strategic development of genomic medicine within both the Institute and the University. They will contribute to the development of first class learning and teaching in this field and to effective knowledge exchange and impact.
If the appointee is clinically active, it is anticipated that they will be offered honorary consultant status within NHS Lothian, based at the Western General Hospital.

Your skills and attributes for success:
- An established, outstanding international research reputation in functional and translational genomic medicine
- Ability to lead and develop an interdisciplinary research team and capability of securing substantial research funding from competitive sources such as research councils, HDR UK, NIHR, Wellcome Trust, research charities, industry and global funders.
- A strong track record of publications in world-leading peer-reviewed international journals.
- Ability to work as part of a senior academic team and to engage in senior-level research and strategic planning.
- Capability to act as role model in creating a positive, inclusive environment for research and teaching
