Salary: From £25,948 per annum
This post is fixed term until 15.07.2024, and full time at 37 hours per week.
Closing Date: Sunday 20 August 2023
Interview Date: Wednesday 06 September 2023
Do you want to be part of shaping our world-class vision and make a real difference? Will your experience and expertise in Chemistry enhance our students’ experience in the laboratory environment?
Our Joseph Banks Laboratories (JBL) house the research and training facilities for the Schools of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Life & Environmental Science. These are complemented by teaching laboratory facilities in the Janet Lane-Claypon Building. The JBL Schools Technical Team provide laboratory teaching and research support across these buildings for the students and staff as well as for the commercial facilities offered by JBL Science.
We currently have a fixed term opportunity for a laboratory technician with experience in synthetic chemistry. Knowledge of analytical, forensic and/or pharmaceutical chemistry would also be an advantage. The role is based across both the Janet Lane-Claypon Building and the Joseph Banks Laboratories on the Brayford campus, where you will work in a team of 5 technicians in the chemistry teaching and research labs. The job is very varied and involves liaising with academic staff to discuss requirements, preparing solutions and equipment, and demonstrating in class to deliver a range of chemistry focussed practical classes to undergraduate students. You will have a good understanding of the science behind the practical work, be comfortable and experienced working safely in a chemistry lab and maintaining specialist lab equipment. You will need to be flexible in the hours and locations worked and you will be part of a larger team of 20 technicians, supporting colleagues in other areas where required. Technical support for research and commercial activities is also required in the nearby Joseph Banks Laboratories that house our well-equipped research laboratories.
The University of Lincoln is a forward-thinking, ambitious institution and you will be working in the heart of a thriving, beautiful, safe and friendly city. The Schools provide a stimulating environment for academic research, and are based in high quality, newly developed facilities. We offer exciting career opportunities with the chance to grow and develop to reach your full potential. We also offer a wide range of staff benefits, including a generous annual leave allowance of 30 days per year pro rata (plus an additional 14 bank holiday and concessionary days), progressive pay rates, access to discounts at popular stores and more.
