Cardiff University, College of Biomedical and Life Sciences, School of Dentistry invites applications for a Clinical Lecturer (Academic Trainee) post in Oral Medicine (full time).

This is an exciting opportunity to start or continue your career in teaching and the scholarship of dentistry.  Within our strong academic teaching structure, you will be supported in achieving the highest standards of dental education for our undergraduate students.  You will follow our staff-development pathway within the arena of academic clinical dentistry, with opportunities for career progression, tailored for you.

We are looking for an individual who is seeking a career in Oral Medicine, is passionate about dentistry and patient care, an enthusiastic teacher and who wants to help shape future dental clinicians.  You should be well organised, and able to work as part of a team, showing leadership qualities or leadership potential.  You will be required to take an active role in shaping our undergraduate programmes, and we will support you in obtaining a higher research degree and, where appropriate, further clinical training.

Through our staff development pathways, we will support you to develop the highest standards of dental education for our undergraduate students and provide opportunities for career progression tailored to you.

The remit of the post will be dependent on past experience and qualifications on appointment.  The expectation is that the appointed candidate will register for, and undertake a PhD, and undertake formal specialty training in Oral Medicine, unless these have already been completed.

Applicants will have the opportunity to apply for the award of a National Training Number (NTN) in Oral Medicine as part of the appointment process.  Applicants will be expected to complete benchmarking for their NTN during a 12 month probational period with a view to start their specialist training following successful completion of the probational period.

The nature of this post will require the successful applicant to work from the Dental School, University Dental Hospital, Heath Park Campus, Cardiff for the majority of the time.  Travel between sites may be required for training and education purposes.

Fitness to practice: candidates must have satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in England & Wales / Disclosure Scotland (PVG) in Scotland / Access NI in Northern Ireland or equivalent.  Applicants must also meet professional health requirements (in line with GDC Standards).

The successful candidate will be awarded an appropriate honorary contract by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

This post is full time (40 hours per week), open-ended and available immediately.

Salary: £39,371 – £73,237 per annum (Clinical Grade D1).  Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
