About us

The Department of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) was established in 1995 and offers comprehensive and structured CPD programmes for general dental practitioners, consultants, specialists and all other members of the dental team. Short educational programmes and longer part-time substantive degree programmes are also offered, together with revision courses and distance learning programmes. This type of education and training is facilitated by the emphasis on small group teaching which is evidence-based. Staff are experienced postgraduate teachers with high levels of clinical expertise. The Department delivers the Dental Manikin (DM) section of the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE) for the General Dental Council, as part of the ORE Consortium which consists of UCL Eastman Dental Institute, the Royal ENT and the Eastman Dental Hospital, Queen Mary University of London and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

About the role

The main remit of the post is to ensure the development, coordination and smooth running of the postgraduate courses and programmes in the field of Prosthodontics, including related training and mentoring. Amongst many activities, the department offers prestigious part-time MSc Programmes for General Dental practitioners in Restorative Dental Practice. The postholder will have specific responsibility for the delivery of teaching, coordination and continuous development of the Certificate and the Diploma years of the overall programme, and will also be expected to supervise MSc dissertations/research projects. The postholder will have responsibilities as part of the team under the Head of CPD to develop, procure, deliver and lead on the delivery of short courses and non-credit bearing CPD programmes, both through the delivery of teaching on-site or through blended learning. The postholder will also play an active role in assisting the Head of CPD in the development and delivery of micro-credentials. This is a 0.6FTE, 3 days per week position (typically Mon, Wed, Fri). Importantly, as part of the role to help deliver Part 2 of the ORE it will be essential to work approximately 5 weekends per year, plus some out-of-hours work from time to time to discharge the duties as required for the functioning of the ORE.

About you

The postholder will have experience in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in restorative dentistry, as well as experience of delivering CPD courses. The postholder must have experience of providing specialist dental practices, a Masters or PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, and current registration as a dentist with GDC. Disclosure and Barring Service Assessment is also required.
