About us
The mission of the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health is to improve the health and well-being of children, and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health. GOS ICH holds an Athena SWAN Charter Gold Award.
About the role
The Dubowitz Neuromuscular Centre follows a large number of children affected by a variety of neuromuscular disorders. The Centre is engaged in research focused on the genetic basis of the neuromuscular conditions and in translational research especially in congenital dystrophies, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy. This post offers an exciting opportunity for candidates seeking to carry out research in neuromuscular diseases within an established national centre of excellence. Research will be focused on the translational research projects of the centre with the focus on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Myotubular Myopathy. The salary is StR £40,058 – £57,330 per annum or Junior Doctors Pay Scale £40,257 – £58,398 per annum. This post is funded until 30/6/2024 in the first instance.
About you
The post is suitable for pediatricians, pediatric neurologists and adult neurologists /geneticists interested in Paediatric neuromuscular disorders. Applicants must be medically qualified with current GMC registration. Experience in neuromuscular disorders is desirable but not essential. Experience of presenting clinical research at national/international scientific meetings and through publication in peer reviewed journals and a demonstrated ability to carry out independent scientific work to a high standard are desirable.
