About us

The Department of Neuromuscular Diseases is a hub for clinical and research excellence across the spectrum of spinal cord and neuromuscular diseases. Our group of world-leading clinical, genetic, and basic science researchers focus their work on understanding the causes and biological mechanisms leading to Neuromuscular Disease and translating this knowledge into developing novel therapeutic solutions that is of direct benefit to neurological disorders such as motor neurone disease, Alzheimer’s disease and neuromuscular disease.

The Department hosts a number of important Research Centres, including the International Centre for Genomic Medicine in Neuromuscular Diseases, the Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases, the UCL QS MND Centre as well as the Alzheimer’s Research UK Drug Discovery Institute (ARUK UCL DDI).

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Research Fellow to join the Neurogenetics Laboratory and the Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases (CNMD). You will play a key role in the successful delivery of the high-profile Neurogenetic Therapies Programme, the aim of which is to build on recent advances in the understanding of the genetic basis of neurodegenerative diseases, and significantly speed up their translation into effective treatments.

You will be part of a team working on genetics and biomarkers, including genome, exome, long-read, oocyte expression, fibroblast, and iPSC model development. We have a busy weekly neurogenetics clinic and you will be part of this as well as having the option to join movement disorders clinics such as ataxia, MSA, PSP and dystonias.

An honorary contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.

The post is available immediately and is funded by the Sigrid Rausing Trust for one year in the first instance.

About you

You will have an MD, MBBS, or equivalent degree, and be a registered medical practitioner licensed to practise in the UK with experience in neurology on a clinical basis. An understanding and experience of genetics, biomarkers, and neurological disorders, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong problem-solving abilities are also essential.

What we offer

The role is offered with salary in the range of £39,454 – £62,598 per annum inclusive of London Allowance, on the CL, JDPS, or StR scale, dependent on stage of clinical training.
