About us

The post of Clinical Research Fellow at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology/ Moorfields Eye Hospital is funded by the Wellcome Trust as part of a research collaboration (the PINNACLE study- Deciphering AMD by Deep Phenotyping and Machine Learning) between UCL, University of Southampton, Kings College London, Imperial College London, University of Basel, Switzerland and Medical University of Vienna, Austria. This collaboration, led by Professor Sobha Sivaprasad at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology/Moorfields Eye Hospital, aims to catalyse the field of prognosis research by bringing together leading clinical, genetic and artificial intelligence, methodological groups in prognosis research.

The Clinical Research Fellow post offers an exciting opportunity for someone to play a key role in a highly successful and dynamic research and teaching institute, as well as benefiting from the opportunities afforded by being part of the larger financial and administrative community of the Faculty of Brain Sciences, School of Life and Medical Sciences and University College London (UCL).

About the role

Salary: Clinical grade CL7 spine point 1 (£39,454 per annum, including London Allowance)

Duration: 12 months, in the first instance

Working type: 100% time on site

The Clinical Research Fellow will work with the Principal Investigator to run the PINNACLE study at Moorfields Eye Hospital and be responsible for the recruitment and consent of study participants, taking medical and ophthalmic history and collecting demographic data. In addition, they will perform ophthalmic tests and investigations including visual function tests and review, process and analyse the collected data, present results at national and international meetings and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.

Due to the nature of the role, an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this post. Any offer of employment will be subject to a DBS check.

About you

A successful Clinical Research Fellow will hold a MBBS, excellent ophthalmology skills, a good knowledge of age-related macular degeneration and experience in performing and interpretation of ophthalmic imaging and investigations. In addition, the candidate should have a strong publication record as lead or co-author in relevant area of research and be highly self-motivated and hard working.
