Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Research Practitioner to join the Unit for Paediatric & Population-Based Dermatology Research at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London.

The candidate will be joining a dynamic, hardworking and supportive group of Clinical Research Practitioners, Research Nurses and clinical investigators.

Main duties of the job

Once trained, the candidate will have responsibility for leading on a portfolio of Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs) and observational research studies.

You will be tasked with liaising with clinical teams to recruit eligible patients, support delivery of clinical interventions and conduct tests according to specific study protocols. You will also be responsible for study follow up, data entry, ensuring patient safety and maintaining high levels of quality assurance. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in the set-up of new trials and will be required to work within the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality clinical research.

Working for your organisation

The Unit is directed by Professor Carsten Flohr, Consultant and Chair in Dermatology and Population Science. Professor Flohr is also a Research & Development Lead for St John’s Institute. Professor Flohr and his team are running a broad portfolio of research studies, including trials with novel systemic medications for severe atopic eczema and psoriasis (biologics and small molecules) and the ‘Mind & Skin’ consortium, a large group of investigators from across paediatric dermatology, allergy, sleep medicine, brain imaging, neuroimmunology and psychiatry to study how skin inflammation and itching in atopic eczema can lead to systemic inflammation, including in the brain. Professor Flohr’s team also leads the UK-Irish Atopic eczema Systemic Therapy Register (A-STAR), a multi-centre observational study of systemic therapies in paediatric and adult atopic eczema (www.astar-register.org), as well as, an EU-funded project that studies how food allergies develop through the skin (TRANS-FOODS).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The ideal candidates will have worked in an NHS setting and have knowledge of Good Clinical Practice as it relates to research (https://www.nihr.ac.uk/health-and-care-professionals/learning-and-support/good-clinical-practice.htm). Paediatric experience in desirable. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will possess good timekeeping and prioritisation skills and be willing to learn and develop within the role.
