The role

Applications are invited for a Clinical Senior Lecturer(s) in Paediatric Dentistry. We are seeking outstanding clinical academics who will play leading roles in Paediatric Dentistry teaching at Bristol Dental School as we prepare to move to our purpose-built, state-of-the-art educational facility. As leaders within the academic Paediatric team, this key role will help shape the strategy of this discipline and lead the delivery of excellent undergraduate & postgraduate education.

Opportunities exist to develop your passion in teaching and relevant research, and collaboration is strongly encouraged across Dental Specialties and with other academic disciplines across the Faculty of Health Sciences, and wider University. The post holder(s) will be expected to contribute to School leadership roles at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.

What will you be doing?

Teaching

Teaching is increasingly integrative & collaborative, and recognition of and ability to support this is central to the achievement of these goals.  The appointee will be responsible for direct teaching of specific areas, aligned to their expertise, within our integrated BDS21 curriculum.

We are refreshing our strategy around postgraduate taught programmes and have ambitions to build an innovative suite of continuing professional development, postgraduate certificates & diplomas, and full clinical masters programmes. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of postgraduate programmes in endodontics, prosthodontics, and/or periodontics.

Research

This role is designed primarily to drive innovation & quality in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Paediatric dentistry. We do encourage applications from candidates with research experience.

Management

The appointee will be expected to contribute to leadership within the discipline and in the development of the School by maximising the opportunity for staff to deliver teaching & conduct research of high quality.  They will also take line management responsibility for identified members of staff, supervising their work where appropriate, monitoring their progress, conducting staff reviews & helping to develop their potential. The appointee will be expected to take on leadership roles in the administration of teaching Units within their specialty and on Bristol Dental School committees (e.g., year lead roles).

Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance

The successful appointee will be expected to take a full role in the delivery of the School’s agenda for Clinical Governance.

You should apply if

  • You have substantial experience of developing and running undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching programmes in Paediatric dentistry and/or training at an appropriate level
  • You can provide comprehensive dental care for paediatric patients under local anaesthetic (± sedation)
  • You have a track record of leadership & management in an academic setting
  • You have a desire to contribute to wider administrative activities of the School
  • You have a BDS or equivalent (e.g., BChD, DDS), full registration with the General Dental Council (GDC)
  • You have membership of appropriate Defence Society
  • You have a postgraduate clinical qualification in Paediatric Dentistry or equivalent Teaching qualification (e.g., FHEA, PGCert)

Contract type: Open-ended 

Work pattern: Full time/ 1FE (part-time considered, minimum 0.4FTE)

Shift pattern: 40 hours per week (part time considered)
