The post represents an exciting opportunity to join the Clinical Skills Team in the School of Medicine. You will support and implement the delivery of the undergraduate curriculum predominately in the Clinical Education Centre on our University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust, Royal Stoke University Hospital site.

The post is aimed at doctors currently in specialty training who have been granted permission by the relevant Postgraduate Dean for a 1-year period of out-of-programme (OOP) training. However, doctors yet to obtain a national training number, but with postgraduate experience are also eligible to apply. The post may also be suitable for senior trainees who wish to work for 12 months OOP prior to completing specialist training. You will be responsible for a significant amount of patient-based teaching, clinical and communications skills teaching.

During the year, you will be expected to complete some formal study in medical education, e.g. Keele Certificate in Medical Education. The school will contribute towards course fees and time out for self-study will be negotiated with the line manager, however the priority would be to deliver education. You will have opportunities to maintain clinical expertise by spending 1-2 clinical sessions per week in the relevant clinical setting.

You will be fully registered with the General Medical Council and may possess a relevant national training number. Appointees must have a higher professional qualification by August 2023, but you may apply if you are taking your exams between January and August 2023. You will have evidence of experience of teaching clinical students, practical IT skills and the ability to teach effectively. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and leadership skills are also essential.
