We are seeking Clinical Teaching Fellows to join the MBChB programme at an exciting time when the curriculum and programme structure are under review. The roles are designed for those wishing to develop a career in medical education, and would be particularly suitable for trainees immediately prior to or currently in a specialty training post. The main focus is to provide supporting clinical input to the undergraduate medical programme, the MBChB: contributing to module design, teaching and assessment.

Postholders will be offered the opportunity to undertake the Postgraduate Certification in Education for Health Professionals at the University, if they do not already hold this level of qualification. They will also be given the opportunity to undertake a project (with an academic supervisor) from a list of options available for the current academic year. 

These posts are initially for 12 months at 1 FTE and are suitable for job-share. We have several full-time opportunities available and are open to discussions about part-time working.

Key Requirements

The successful candidates would be expected to have full GMC registration and full-time postgraduate training / experience after graduation (or its equivalent gained on a part-time basis).

Main Duties

Under guidance from the academic supervisors who have the ultimate responsibility for the design, delivery and assessment of the module or teaching programme:

  • Contribute to the design of modules with other colleagues including the development of on-line and face to face learning materials.
  • Teach courses across the undergraduate medical curriculum, predominantly through lectures and small group teaching, so that the programme’s teaching objectives are met.
  • Plan and prepare own teaching, including guidance notes and handouts in accordance with the established objectives of the teaching programme.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Primary Medical Qualification (MBChB, MBBS or equivalent)
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice (or equivalent)
  • Ability to teach in an undergraduate medicine context
