Hours per week: 37.5

Advert closes midnight on: 31 Jul 2023

About the role

Providing vital support to the teaching of undergraduate medical students in the first two years of their course, you will supervise four study groups of eight students from years 1 and 2 of the MB ChB course in their completion of workbook activities. You will support teaching during early clinical placements, developing students’ knowledge and skills so they can make a smooth transition into full-time clinical training in year 3 and maximise their student experience.

Teaching is provided face to face but may have elements of blended learning as required. Your role will also include a variety of other educational activities such as teaching examination skills; involvement in our range of clinical simulation; and assessment activities such as question writing, standard setting, and marking (both written and OSCE assessments).

This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop your teaching and educational skills, offering useful preparation for some Royal College postgraduate examinations. You will have the opportunity to achieve an Accredited Teaching Qualification, and gain experience for a possible future teaching role in medical or higher education.

About you

Applicants must hold MB ChB or equivalent and have completed satisfactorily two years of Foundation Training, or the equivalent, at the time of taking up their post together with full GMC registration. All applicants should have experience in higher education, preferably medical education, be able to demonstrate an interest in clinical education and be able to highlight the importance, significance and relevance of basic science in clinical medicine and practice.

Additional information

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Deborah Mitcheson on dm309@leicester.ac.uk or Jade Isted on jvi2@leicester.ac.uk.

Applications for job share will be considered.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 because the appointee will have substantial access to young people and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, an appointment to this post will be subject to checking through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The successful applicant for this post will, therefore, be required to give consent for the University to check and obtain appropriate clearance with the DBS for the existence and content of any criminal record in the form of an Enhanced disclosure.

Information received from the DBS and the police will be kept in strict confidence and will be destroyed once the University is satisfied in this regard.

As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to professional development, this role will also be considered on a seconded basis for existing staff members. Please ensure this is discussed with your line manager prior to applying.
