The role
We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant Senior Lecturer in Haematology to join the Bristol Medical School to build our capacity in clinical academics with expertise in clinical and functional genomics, focusing on gene discovery in heritable haematological disorders and the use of in vitro and in vivo models to characterise novel disorders. This position will promote new genomic research collaborations with other Bristol Medical School academic clinical groups (including Bristol Renal, Bristol Cardiovascular), programmes and cohorts (including the Integrative Cancer Epidemiology Programme, ALSPAC (Children of the 90s)).
What will you be doing?
The successful applicant will split their time 50:50 between clinical training and academic work. Clinical work will be based at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) NHS Foundation Trust; academic work will be based in the Bristol Medical School: Translational Health Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Bristol, although collaborative working with other Schools is encouraged. It is expected that academic time will be spent carrying out research, educational leadership and delivery. They will be expected to develop an independent programme of internationally competitive research and to participate in the full range of clinical service work.
The post holder will be employed by the University of Bristol with an honorary clinical contract with UHBW Trust. This post is 80% full time equivalent involving 8 programmed activities.

The job will be suitable for someone who already has a track record of competitive independent research in haematology research (or the clear potential to achieve this), and whose strength and experience has also equipped them to undertake specialist aspects of clinical haematology related to heritable platelet and neutrophil disorders, multisystem haematological disorders and disorders that predispose to haematological malignancy. The post holder will also be required to demonstrate leadership in laboratory haematology.
