An alleged sex tape filmed inside the US Senate has rocked Capitol Hill after it was leaked online, with a political staffer since leaving his job.
Democrat congressional aide Aidan Maese-Czeropski left his job working for Democrat Maryland senator Ben Cardin on Saturday afternoon,
The move came less than a day after an amateur pornographic film showing two men having anal sex inside a Senate hearing room was leaked online.
The identities of the men in the video have not been revealed.
“Aidan Maese-Czeropski is no longer employed by the US Senate,” Mr Cardin said in a statement.
“We will have no further comment on this matter.”
Mr Maese-Czeropski has vehemently denied all allegations that he was one of the men in the pornographic film.
“This has been a difficult time for me, as I have been attacked for who I love to pursue a political agenda,” he wrote on LinkedIn.
“While some of my actions in the past have shown poor judgement, I love my job and would never disrespect my workplace.
“Any attempts to characterise my actions otherwise are fabricated and I will be exploring what legal options are available to me in these matters.”
The Daily Caller published an eight-second video of the Hart Senate Office Building sex scene and reported that the tape had been circulating in private group chats.
Mr Maese-Czeropski’s mother Magdalena Rivera Maese spoke to theDaily Mailbefore he left his job, with the outlet stating that she had “implied her son had been left distraught by what had happened”.
“You don’t want to know how he’s doing.” she told the outlet.
The sex tape allegedly shows two men engaging in sex in a hearing room, with one of the unidentified males also allegedly posing “naked and on all fours” on top of a table where Senators sit during hearings in another photograph.
The X-rated footage appeared online and spread rapidly, including in private Washington DC groups.
Mr Maese-Czeropski once appeared in a campaign video for President Biden days after he won the 2020 election, briefly speaking with the now president in the montage clip.
He has denied allegations of an alleged separate incident just days before the explicit videos were leaked, when Ohio Republican Congressman Max Miller accused him of being anti-Semitic and confronting him over his support for Israel.
In a blog post, Jonathan Turley, an lawyer and professor at George Washington University Law, discussed possible charges that could be broughr against the two unidenified men.
“The question is whether this unofficial use would constitute trespass.” he said, according to Fox News.
“It also uses an official area for personal purposes, though it is not clear if there were any commercial benefits garnered from the video found on various sites.”
Mr Turley said one possible charge could fall under D.C. code section 22-1312, which discusses lewd, indecent, or obscene acts.
He also discussed the potential consequences if the clip was used to make money.
“It is unlawful for a person, in public, to make an obscene or indecent exposure of his or her genitalia or anus, to engage in masturbation, or to engage in a sexual act as defined in § 22-3001(8),” he wrote.
“It is unlawful for a person to make an obscene or indecent sexual proposal to a minor. A person who violates any provision of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanour and, upon conviction, shall be fined not more than the amount set forth in § 22-3571.01, imprisoned for not more than 90 days, or both,” the criminal code states.
“The Capitol police could argue that this constitutes purloining or using government property for personal purposes.
“The key factor is the fact that this videotape was made with the apparent intent to publish or show others. Sex in congressional offices — by both members and staff — have long been known to occur on Capitol Hill.
“Yet, this was a public hearing room, albeit closed at the time, and a tape made for what appears public viewing.”
The Capitol Police are reportedly investigating the explicit incident, which occured in the Hart Senate Office Building hearing room in Washington, D.C.
The room is a part of Capitol Hill.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Mr Maese-Czeropski has worked in Cardin’s office since October 2021, when he was hired as a staff assistant.
He was previously employed as a foreign policy legislative correspondent for Cardin before being named one of his legislative aides in November.
Before joining Cardin’s office, he also worked as a fellow at climate group Friends of the Earth and as a Democratic Party of Virginia organiser during the 2020 election.
