Applications are invited for a Research Assistant or Research Associate (depending on qualifications) to contribute to research aimed at development of a workplace intervention to support healthy lifestyle behav-iours in young adults. This be a 5-month position, to start September 2023, based in the Behavioural Epi-demiology and Interventions in Young People Programme at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, with possibility of extention for the right candidate. The successful candidate will conduct analysis of existing datasets, support development of qualitative research with young people and employers, and support early co-development and evaluability assessment of a proposed intervention.
Diet, physical activity and sleep patterns are key risk factors for obesity, and these behaviours typically be-come less healthy from adolescent to early adulthood. The workplace is an important determinant of health that people are exposed to for the first time during early adulthood, with overall 63% of young people aged 18-24 in full-time or part-time employment. Many features of the workplace may influence lifestyle behav-iours including structural factors (e.g. time constraints, commuting behaviours), physical environment (e.g. food availabiitliy) and social environment (e.g. influence of colleagues). The aim of this research project is to co-develop, with young people and employers, a workplace intervention to support healthy lifestyle behav-iours among young adults entering the workplace.
Applicants should have a Masters degree in a relevant discipline, and a PhD if applying at Research Associ-ate level. You will have a strong interest in understanding the determinants of changing diet and lifestyle be-haviours during early adulthood, and development of interventions to support healthy behaviour patterns.
Starting date: Ideally the candidate will be able to start in September
