Do you want to play a critical part in MRC’s mission to improve human health? Join us as an Engagement Programme Manager and you will manage a portfolio of engagement, science and policy projects.
About the role
You will work extensively across MRC and UKRI, with central government, other research funders, including industry and charities, and across the UK research and innovation community, to build and deliver productive partnerships. You will get an opportunity to lead and manage a number of high-profile projects. You will also be involved in providing advice to internal and external audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, gathering strategic advice from a range of stakeholders
- Supporting the planning, development and establishment of engagement activities designed to increase MRC’s profile and strategic relationships with key external stakeholders (for example universities, charities and industry)]
- Being a key knowledge holder on stakeholder engagement, providing support and advice to internal and external audiences
- Leading high profile MRC projects, inputting into new proposals and working with a range of supporting professional teams
- Developing and managing funding schemes and initiatives, including involvement in relevant peer review of applications
- Assisting senior colleagues in the review of research fields and the development and implementation of scientific initiatives and policy
- Preparing briefing documents, programme briefs, project initiation documents or equivalent, and business case among other documents, including identifying and mitigating risks, and supporting budget management and forecasting
About you
- PhD or at least 3 years equivalent, relevant professional experience in clinical, academic or commercial setting
- Excellent organisational skills, with an ability to plan, prioritise, and progress multiple projects/work streams at the same time.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to show initiative, cope with ambiguity, and operate independently and pro-actively in an evolving environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly, negotiating, influencing and building credibility with internal and external stakeholders at a variety of levels.
- Ability to take accountability and proactively deliver objectives and outcomes of own work (supporting the wider team) through planning, prioritising and delivering with minimum supervision.
- Ability to manage different workstreams to simultaneously support a number of different projects
- Knowledge of the life science/medical research and innovation landscape in the UK, including the role of different stakeholders.
- Effective collaborator and team member, actively establishing excellence working relationships and networks to enhance work output.
- Experience of acting as an organisation representative to external stakeholders
- Ability to effectively delegate and coordinate resources.
- The ability to manage conflicting priorities and time effectively
