Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to take a lead role in the development of health improvement & improvement science work to support the delivery of an ambitious programme of clinical and non-clinical research projects. In this maternity cover appointment (fixed term, 10 months from November 2023), you will take a lead role in training and mentoring local project teams and work with the programme lead of the NW London Applied Research Collaborative (ARC) and wider clinical networks of the NW London Integrated Care System, to ensure they are undertaking effective health improvement work. If you have a PhD in a health-related field, experienced in planning and carrying out applied health research, quality improvement and implementation projects and with an excellent understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods, then this Improvement Science/Health Improvement Lead role will interest you.
Duties and responsibilities
You will:
- support the translation of evidence into practice to deliver demonstrable improvements that can be replicated across the NHS. This will involve providing support to the ARC research themes to plan and evaluate their projects.
- provide professional expertise to help ensure all the key deliverables of ARC are achieved during its five-year programme.
- take responsibility for defining learning and improvement through an active action/research/organisational learning process.
- bring leadership, guidance and expert knowledge to the NlHR ARC for Northwest London, particularly highly specialised advice on health improvement methods to support change, develop effective policy and practice, and increase research capacity and capability for delivering high quality healthcare across NW London.
Essential requirements
An ideal candidate would have the following:
- PhD, or equivalent, in healthcare or a relevant discipline
- Substantial experience in planning and carrying out applied health research, quality improvement and implementation projects
- Good understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods
- Experience of managing staff, including management of project teams
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Evidence of good time management, ability to meet strict deadlines and to manage multiple simultaneous projects
