Jamie Lee Curtis has been forced to delete a post in solidarity with Israel after being called out for an embarrassing oversight.
The Oscar-winning actress, 64, has shared a flurry of content expressing her support for Israel after militant group Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on the country from Gaza on Saturday.
Among her posts was a photo of terrified children staring at missiles in the sky, which Curtis posted alongside an Israel flag.
“Terror from the skies,” she wrote, in a bid to encourage support for the Middle Eastern country.
However, the photographer behind the image, Samar Abu Elouf, stated it actually showed Palestinian children in Gaza in the photo, who could be seen running from bombs being counter-launched by Israel.
Elouf shared the powerful photo on her own Instagram page, writing, “Palestinian families seek refuse with their children from the northern Gaza Trip to UNRWA schools inside Gaza City. Children are afraid of the sound of bombing who hear it during their presence due to events on the Strip’s borders.”
Curtis isn’t the only high-profile figure to be called out for her posts regarding the attacks in Israel.
Kylie Jenner, 26, shared a widely-posted photo of the Israeli flag, with the message, “Now and always, we stand with the people of Israel!”
She swiftly deleted the controversial post, which featured on her Instagram story for less than an hour.
“Imagine asking Kylie Jenner to tell us more about the political and territorial conflict between Israel and Palestine since 1948 and let’s see what she has to say,” one X user wrote.
“If true journalism exists, the next person to talk to Kylie Jenner will ask for her opinion on geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and not break eye contact until she can string one coherent sentence together since she wants to take a stance to her 400M followers so badly,” another said.
“Someone ask Kylie Jenner to point to Israel on a map,” a third added.
Other celebrities to share the pro-Israel post included Ashley Tisdale, Sofia Richie and Nina Dobrev.
Hamas launched thousands of rockets from Gaza in a surprise ambush which began on Saturday, killing hundreds and taking a “significant” number of captives.
At least 600 Israelis have been killed and more than 2000 are injured, according to the country’s media. Among the dead are 44 soldiers.
On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared his nation was “at war” with Hamas as it fought militants in southern Israel and launched air strikes across Gaza.
Elsewhere, Israel’s Major General Ghasan Alyan said: “Hamas opened the gates of hell on the Gaza Strip, Hamas made the decision and Hamas will bear the responsibility and pay the price.”
Hamas is designated a terrorist organisation by Australia and many other countries, including the United States and United Kingdom.
